Swedish Lion Monument

The Swedish Lion monument stands on the high bank of Narva and commemorates the 1700 battle when the Swedish army of Charles XII won one of the first major battles of the Great Northern War. The modern monument was unveiled in 2000 and replicates the design of an earlier monument destroyed during World War II. The lion is mounted on a massive pedestal in an open space, offering clear views of the river, the historical fortifications area, and the opposite bank. Due to its combination of history and panoramic location, it is not just a memorial site, but a convenient stop on a walking route through the western part of central Narva.
