Tallinn Town Hall Square

Town Hall Square is the historic heart of Tallinn's Old Town and one of the main places where acquaintance with the city begins. Back in the Middle Ages, it was the market and the center of public life in the Lower Town, and today the square remains a natural meeting point among the narrow streets of the historic center. Its architectural dominant is the Gothic Tallinn Town Hall, whose current medieval appearance was formed at the beginning of the 15th century. Historic houses stand along the perimeter of the square, cafes and restaurants operate, and the ancient Town Hall Pharmacy is nearby. The space changes with the season: in summer, city events and open-air terraces are held here, and in winter, the square becomes the center of the Old Town's Christmas atmosphere. This is one of the best places to experience the preserved scale and character of medieval Tallinn.
