Tartu Town Hall Square

Tartu Town Hall Square is the historic heart of the city and one of the main places to start exploring the Old Town. The square is surrounded by historic buildings, with the 18th-century town hall serving as its architectural centerpiece. In front of the town hall stands the fountain with the "Kissing Students" sculpture, one of the most recognizable symbols of university Tartu. City events take place here, cafe terraces and street music enliven the summer, and in winter the space transforms into a festive Christmas area with an ice rink. Nearby are the Sloping House, Toomemägi hill, and the ruins of Tartu Cathedral.
