Viljandi Trepimägi

Trepimägi is one of Viljandi's characteristic urban routes, connecting the Old Town with the lake. The stairs were built in the late 19th century to make the descent to the water more convenient; today its five flights and 158 steps have become an independent attraction. Along the way, views of the lake and the green slopes of the ancient valley open up, and beautiful historical villas that once belonged to wealthy citizens and merchants are preserved around. Trepimägi is especially interesting not as a separate monument, but as a short walk where urban architecture gradually gives way to the natural landscape. At the bottom, the route can be continued to the beach and the Viljandi lake trail.
