Viljandi Old Water Tower

The old water tower of Viljandi is a compact historical landmark and one of the best viewpoints in the city. The red-brick tower, about 30 meters high, was built in 1911 when Viljandi became one of the first Estonian towns with a modern water supply and sewage system. After decades of operation, the structure lost its original function and was restored as an observation tower in 2001. Three floors feature historical materials and exhibitions, while at the top visitors can enjoy views of the Old Town, Lake Viljandi, and the surrounding landscape. Due to the seasonal opening hours, visiting the tower is best planned in advance.
