Ruins of Vasknarva Order Castle

Ruins of Vasknarva Order Castle

The ruins of the Vasknarva ordulinnus are located in the village of Vasknarva in the Alutaguse municipality, Ida-Viru County, on the banks of the Narva River. The first order fortress was established here in 1349 but was destroyed the same year. A new fortress began to be built in 1427, and it became the residence of the local fogt. After the Livonian War, the building remained in ruins. Today, one can see the remains of the ancient fortification walls, about three meters thick, and the view of the opposite bank of the river. The site is outdoors, so suitable footwear should be chosen based on the terrain and weather, and a safe distance should be kept from the crumbling walls.
