The exhibition “Kes jääb ellu? Tartu 19. sajandi terviseloterii” (Who Will Survive? Tartu’s 19th-Century Health Lottery) is open at the 19th-Century Townsman Museum in Tartu. The display explores how people understood illness, health and treatment options at a time when scientific medicine was only taking shape and folk remedies were a natural part of everyday life. Attention is paid to hygiene, nutrition, medicinal plants, pharmacy herbs and the role of the University of Tartu in the development of medical knowledge. The exhibition invites visitors to think about what people’s health choices depended on and how reliable advice from different sources was considered to be. It remains open until 28 March 2027.
