The concert “Tähed Namiibia kõrbes” (Stars in the Namib Desert) takes place on 1 November at Noblessneri Valukoda in Tallinn as part of the Orient festival. A nine-member Namibian folk ensemble led by artistic director Perminus Matiure performs songs, dances and traditional music of the peoples of southern Africa. Various traditional instruments are heard, including the mbira, nyunga-nyunga, chipendani, drums and rattles. The programme also includes polyphonic makwaira choral singing and musical interludes linked to storytelling. The event introduces the musical traditions of different communities in Namibia and combines live music, dance and oral tradition. It starts at 17.00, with entrance from the car park side.
