A performance of Joseph Haydn’s oratorio “The Creation” takes place on 18 December at the Vanemuine Concert Hall in Tartu. The Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir and the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Tõnu Kaljuste, perform the classic large-scale work depicting the creation of the world. The soloists are soprano Yena Choi, tenor Bernd Fröhlich and bass Kim Sargsyan. Composed in the late 18th century, the oratorio combines biblical text with literary influences from John Milton and uses the possibilities of orchestra and choir to portray light, nature and the animal world. The concert is part of the December programme of Eesti Kontsert and offers grand choral and orchestral music in the run-up to Christmas. The performance lasts about two hours with an interval.
