The Vanemuine National Theatre’s All Souls’ Day concert takes place on 30 October at St Paul’s Church in Tartu. The programme is Johannes Brahms’s “A German Requiem”, Op. 45, in which the composer addresses grief and consolation through German-language biblical texts. The work is performed by the Vanemuine opera chorus and symphony orchestra and the University of Tartu Chamber Choir, conducted by Risto Joost. The soloists are Kadri Raalik and Raiko Raalik of the Estonian National Opera. Large-scale choral and orchestral music in a church space gives an opportunity to reflect on life, loss and human closeness. The Tartu concert is part of an All Souls’ Day concert series that also travels to Viimsi and Rakvere.
