My Brilliant Friend

The drama “My Brilliant Friend” is performed on 25 October in Tartu, at the Vanemuine Small House. Based on the first two parts of Elena Ferrante’s Neapolitan novels, the story follows the friendship of Lenù and Lila from childhood to young adulthood. Their relationship, educational opportunities and choices develop in the complicated social conditions of 1950s Naples. Ain Mäeots’s production explores themes of friendship, rivalry, class differences and growing up. The performance includes street language, depicts smoking and uses gunshots. It lasts three hours and twenty-five minutes and suits an audience that appreciates a large-scale literary drama.
