“The Bourgeois Gentleman” is a Molière comedy in the main hall of the Ugala Theatre in Viljandi. In Maria Peterson’s production, Monsieur Jourdain wants to rise in the social hierarchy and seeks help from teachers and self-development experts. His effort to turn himself into a perfect member of high society leads to ever more absurd situations, while the people around him try to profit from his ambitions. Verbal humour, music and social satire are woven together in the production. Jean-Baptiste de Lully’s original music is performed live. The performance lasts three hours with two intervals.
